Welsh council leaders are calling for urgent talks with the first minister to explore alternative proposals to the reorganisation of councils.
The Williams Review, published on 20 January, recommended that the number of local authorities in Wales should be cut from 22 to a minimum of 12.
The Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) said while it recognised the need for change, it wants to develop a ‘pragmatic’ alternative set of proposals and examine existing boundaries.
It also wants to carry out a detailed financial analysis to determine how much the reorganisation will cost, something not included in the report.
