A watchdog has taken Powys CC to task over the lack of ‘control’ of its safeguarding arrangements.
Audit Wales first detailed improvements to be made back in 2015 and returned to review the council’s progress between June and September this year.
In a report published yesterday, it concluded: ‘Concerningly, the council still does not have proper control of its corporate safeguarding arrangements, which exposes both the council and its residents to risk.’
Audit Wales found Powys had 'no corporate safeguarding policy’ and said it was ‘unclear’ why the council had not implemented its recommendations.
It added: ‘The council needs to take urgent steps to strengthen its corporate safeguarding arrangements and oversight.’
Cabinet member for safeguarding, Richard Church, said the council accepted the findings of the review.
