Pressure on council teams running elections will only be recognised in the event of a ‘major electoral failure,’ a new report has warned.
In a report published today, the Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) concluded a raft of changes to elections were creating vulnerabilities in the system with a General Election looming.
The report read: ‘We are concerned that only a major electoral failure will focus attention on the vulnerabilities of the system.’
AEA chief executive Peter Stanyon said: ‘Stacking significant changes on endemic issues is increasing risk for all elections, but especially a high-turnout General Election.’
