Plans for an £8.5m business incubator that could house up to 100 new firms have been unveiled by Warrington BC.
The 50,000 sq ft facility, part of the town’s £190m Stadium Quarter project, is being funded by a £1.7m European Regional Development Fund grant and £6.7m from the council’s capital programme.
The five-storey incubator will include a café on the ground floor, offices and research and development facilities.
Up to 1,000 construction jobs and nearly 4,000 new permanent jobs are expected to be created by the Stadium Quarter scheme when it is completed in 2024. The mixed-use development will connect the town’s bus interchange with Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Leader of Warrington Council, Cllr Terry O’Neill, said: ‘Warrington is recognised as the number one location outside of London for business start- up companies and this new facility is being built in response to demand. It will provide a first class base in which new businesses can develop and grow.
‘Significantly by autumn of next year Stadium Quarter will be home to two top class facilities; the business incubator that will help new businesses grow and the University Technical College which will train and equip our young people in nuclear and engineering skills.’
