Ministers must prioritise ‘important decisions’ over Homes for Ukraine – including continued funding for councils, spending watchdogs have urged.
A report by the National Audit Office (NAO) - published today - praised central and local government for swiftly implementing measures to support 131,000 Ukrainian refugees since March 2022.
Auditors concluded Whitehall ‘gave early consideration to the risks of the scheme,’ including safeguarding measures.
But the NAO believes attention must now turn to the longer-term implications for communities and Ukrainians.
Auditors reported some local authorities were ‘holding amounts in reserve in case of further pressures, as it is not clear whether central Government will continue to provide funding’.
