Kirklees Council has approved an additional £10m to tackle improvements on its 895-mile network of unclassified roads.

The Locality Based Unclassified Roads programme was launched last year with an initial £15m to target roads 'in need of immediate repair' and was due to be completed early next year. It featured a list of 120 schemes across all 23 wards.

Now an extra £10m has been allocated - £5m for 2023/24 and £5m for 2024/25.

The additional investment aims to bring the roads up to a higher standard, benefiting road users and pedestrians, improving connectivity and improving safety.

Unclassified roads are minor roads and generally carry lower volumes of traffic and connect residential streets, villages and smaller towns.
