Kent CC councillors will vote this week on plans for a devolution deal in a bid to secure more power and resources for the area.
The county has previously resisted the shift towards devolution as it involved introducing a directly-elected mayor and potential local government reorganisation.
However, the impact of social care on finances has driven Kent and Medway to look at devolution afresh.
In a proposal document that goes before the council on Thursday, Kent suggested there was ‘significant attractiveness in the powers and resources available’ – including potential funding of up to £40m per annum over 30 years.
The deal is expected to cover skills, economic development, planning and infrastructure, borders, transport and net zero.
