A ‘thorough’ investigation will determine what caused a fairground ride malfunction that left four people injured at the weekend, Lambeth Council has said.

It was reported at around 6:20pm on Saturday that a ride had failed at the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park, south London.

Emergency services treated four people at the scene.

A man and a woman, both in their forties, remain in hospital but are no longer believed to be in life-threatening condition. A man in his fifties and an 11-year-old girl have been discharged.

The funfair rides were closed although the show continued on Sunday.

A Lambeth Council spokesperson said: ‘A thorough investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the malfunction.’

The Metropolitan Police and the Health and Safety Executive are leading the investigation.
