Leeds City Council’s Tom Riordan is thought to have become the first local authority chief executive to take the ice bucket challenge.
Mr Riordan in turn nominated three people for the challenge, including a friend from Canada for pushing him off his bike when he was aged 5 and an employer for ‘not giving me the borough manager’s job four times in a row’.
The social media craze is aimed at raising awareness and money for the neurodegenerative disease ALS, or motor neurone disease.
Preparing for a soaking on his video, Mr Riordan urged people to donate to the cause.
He tweeted a link to the video, adding: ‘Recorded, soaked and donated.’
Former US president George Bush, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and footballer David Beckham are among a host of well-known faces that have already taken up the challenge.
