Postal votes for part of a Devon district have been reissued after East Devon Council admitted a mistake was made in the recent local elections.

The council said the ballots for the Woodbury and Lympstone ward omitted a party emblem for one candidate.

It said the original ballot papers were being treated as spoilt and voters and new ballots issued following advice from the Electoral Commission.

All those who requested a postal vote in the affected ward have been contacted and the Returning Officer apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Results for the ward show the most votes went to Liberal Democrat Geoff Jung with 929 votes and the other successful candidate was Conservative Ben Ingham with 724 votes.

The unsuccessful candidate with the next highest total was a Conservative who gained 622 votes, while the Green Party gained 566 and Labour came in last with 286.

The District Council remains under no overall control, with the Lib Dems making the biggest election gains and it is thought likely the Democratic Alliance, a cross-party group, will retain control.
