A finance watchdog has said Dundee City Council is ‘well-run’ but ‘long-standing difficulties remain’ to be tackled in its improvement journey.
The Accounts Commission’s report, published today, found ‘effective leadership, good financial management and engagement with communities’ at Dundee, but there were ‘long-standing issues’ to resolve.
Highlighted issues included deprivation and child poverty, high numbers of drug deaths, and challenges in reducing an educational attainment gap.
The report read: ‘The council is taking action to tackle this, but it will take time to determine the impact of this work.'
Interim chair of the commission, Ronnie Hinds, said: ‘There is clear leadership, a commitment to improve and action in response to audit recommendations.
‘Given the significant challenges the city faces, and the ongoing need for financial savings, it’s critical the council maintains and continues the progress it has made.’
