Supersize vapes with tanks many times the size of the UK legal limit were among a recent £55,000 haul made by Westminster City Council from one West End shop.
As well as illegal vapes, the council also found fake designer mobile phone covers, electrical goods with no safety certificates, and sweets banned in the UK due to their ingredients.
Commenting on the raid, council leader Adam Hug said the raid showed that changes to company registration needed to be made to make it harder for dirty money to circulate in London.
‘We are dealing with people who are quite prepared to peddle excessively strong vapes and banned sweets to children. But more trading standards raids are on the way in the coming weeks, so anyone who thinks they can drag down the reputation of Oxford Street with this tawdry trade can think again.’
