Council pushes ahead with volunteer libraries plan

A council facing a judicial review of its proposals to put volunteers in charge of libraries has decided to push ahead with its plans.

Lincolnshire CC’s executive backed the creation of 30 new hubs, which community groups have proposed to run.

The council’s executive member for libraries, Cllr Nick Worth, said: ‘Clearly, a lot of work has gone into these proposals and I’d like to thank all the groups for their ongoing efforts.

‘We do need to await the outcome of the judicial review, but, in the meantime, we’ll continue to work with them to develop their plans further.

‘In the interim, we’ll continue to run libraries at these locations at reduced hours until the judicial review is complete and community groups are ready to run the new hubs.

‘This will give the groups the time they need to lay firm foundations for the future.’
