Council street cleaners and rubbish collectors have played a key role in clearing up after Europe’s biggest street festival.
Some 30 refuse trucks, mechanical street cleaners, a specialised motorway cleaning vehicle and a team of 200 street cleaners quickly moved onto the streets left by the thousands of people who attended Notting Hill Carnival.
Early estimates are that close to 200 tonnes have already been removed by Kensington and Chelsea RLBC workers.
Council leader Cllr Nick Paget Brown said: ‘Cleaning up after Europe’s biggest street party is an enormous undertaking, which we try to complete as quickly as possible.
‘I would like to thank everyone who worked through the night to get the job done and, of course, our residents for their patience.’
The council’s contractors Sita will continue to patrol the carnival area over the coming days to check that nothing has been missed.
