A pledge for greater fiscal control for councils has been made in a ‘landmark agreement’ between national and local government in Scotland.
The Verity House Agreement centred on a new fiscal framework that will reduce ring-fencing and give local authorities greater control over their budgets.
It has been formally signed by First Minister Humza Yousaf and president of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, Shona Morrison.
Cllr Morrison said: ‘This agreement is about creating a new way of working as a partnership of equals – discussing key issues as early as possible and using our collective expertise to deliver for communities across Scotland.’
