Brent Council has for the first time used a power that enables it to ban serial rogue landlords.
The council has banned a man from letting out houses and engaging in property management work in England for the next five years.
A judge issued the ban after the council proved that the landlord had been responsible for multiple housing related offences in the London borough.
In 2018, the landlord was one of four who allowed up to 40 tenants to be packed into a four-bed house in Wembley.
In 2022, he was found guilty of breaching housing regulations at a licensed HMO (house in multiple occupation) property, where officers discovered fire safety violations, accumulating waste, disrepairs and unhygienic conditions under the landlord’s management.
It is the first ban Brent Council has issued since it was given the powers in April 2018 to ban serial rogue landlords under the Housing and Planning Act 2016.
Council leader Muhammed Butt said: ‘Brent Council takes a zero-tolerance policy against rogue landlords such as this, and we will use everything in our powers to hold them to account to safeguard our vulnerable residents.’
