The Electoral Commission has been hit by a Cyber attack, the watchdog has revealed.
It was obliged to announce the ‘complex cyber-attack’ - identified in October last year - under data protection regulations.
The commission said it discovered ‘hostile actors’ were able to access systems from August 2021.
Information held on the affected systems included names, email and home addresses, and phone numbers of people registered to vote.
