Cambridge City Council members are considering plans that could see hotels in the city introduce a tourist tax.
Under the plans, visitors would be required to pay £2 a night for the first two years and £3 a night for the following three years.
Economic Development Manager, Jemma Little, said the charge could bring ‘significant investment’ into the visitor economy of Greater Cambridge ‘at a level previously unseen’.
If approved, the tax could raise £1.5m-£2.6m per annum.
Manchester currently charges tourists £1+VAT per room per night.
